Adding the Fireball to your Pick 3 selection is one quick step in how to play. There's a Fireball box on your playslip that you just have to mark if you wish to opt in. Alternatively, you can tell the retailer to add it to your ticket. Fireball applies to every panel if you are submitting multiple plays, and doubles the total cost.
The Fireball itself is an additional number drawn in the Pick 3 lottery. It is selected after the three main numbers have been drawn. It is drawn from a separate field of 0 to 9, so the Fireball could be the same as one of the digits that has already appeared, or it could be different.
The Fireball acts like a wildcard, as it can be used to replace any of the three main numbers that have been drawn.
Adding the Fireball gives you more chances to win, as you have an extra number to play with. For example, if you pick the numbers 5-6-7, and the winning numbers are 5-0-7, this does not warrant a prize in the base game regardless of your play style. However, if the Fireball is a 6, you could swap it in for the 0 to give you a winning combination.
Using the example above, the prize for a Straight would be $100 for a $0.50 play, rather than the $250 payout that is on offer in the base game. For a Box play, the prize would be $17 for a $0.50 play with Fireball, rather than $40.
